After a long week of labor, round two of being induced, and another 27 hours of hard labor we are glad to have welcomed Gavin Isaiah Freeman into the world at 10:23 P.M.
My last post was on how families are forever and how we said goodbye for a short while to my grandfather. Well I'm pretty sure the reason why little Gavin was so stubborn and didn't want to come down was to spend time with him. My grandfather really was a wonderful man and I'm glad he was there to help send my little one down to me.
We headed to the hospital for round two and we were both more than ready for Gavin to come that night. However we both knew realistically he wouldn't since we got there at 7pm. They started me on the meds again and the waiting began. Around 1:30 am my water broke, not the big gush some people have, just enough that I knew something was up. My nurse for the night happened to be in there checked and sure enough it had. I was excited! Since it broke that meant they couldn't give me any more doses of the Cervidil and would have to start the pitocin when the Cervidil wore off. So around 4 that morning they started it and with time the progression was slow, but there. I was around a 2 cm still until about 11:30, like I said moving along slowly! At that point I jumped to 4 cm, so progress is made. With my medical conditions at hand and the very slow progress my body was making it was taking a toll on Gavin. His heart rate kept taking BIG dips for the worse. Not only was Gavin struggling I myself has getting unsafe reads on my blood pressure, as it was way too low. In efforts to correct both of these issues I was put on oxygen until after he arrived. With those under control they checked me again and next thing I know my doctor is in my room checking me herself. If all my medical issues up to this point weren't enough leave it to me to have something else... I have another sack of fluid. She had to go in and break my second one. Weird right?! so we all were ready to get this show on the road again now that both were broke and I could progress some more, this is at 1:30pm now. By 2:30 at at 5.5, and then 6 by 4pm and they upped my pitocin to help. then by 6 that night I was at a 7 and I was more than ready to get going and just 20 minutes later They said an 8! I was getting excited at this point. Then I was checked again about 8:30 and once again I found my doctor walking in my room about 9:15pm.
That's when I just wanted to cry and I did. She pretty much told us that for both of our safety we were going to have a c-section, non-emergency. We were both fine with this and understood, I was just upset because this meant I would have to miss Grandpa funeral. Having him vaginally we would be able to attend, but now I had to be in the hospital for 4 days after. I know it was the best for us and my family and understood and I know Grandpa would rather us take care of our heath, but that didn't make it any easier.
So they start getting me ready and prepped in my room and with Clint being as large of a man as he is we just laughed when they handed him a jumpsuit to put on. in the end we made them go find some hospital scrubs for him that fit better.
When transferring me to the operating table I just wanted to punch this one nurse in the face! I know that doesn't sound nice, but let me tell ya why. They had several nurses helping get me ready and they were taking their time as we had 20 minutes before we had to be in the OR. Well this one nurse comes in and decided she needs to hurry everyone up and decided she could move me to the bed pretty much by herself. Well WRONG, she's not superwoman! She actually ripped my IV out of my hand... the entire thing! I have never been so upset at someone in my life. My actual nurse was so mad she had to leave the room to keep from going off on this lady. Then to make it worse she acted like I was an idiot when I requested her not to put the IV in my arm but my hand. She was trying to put it in the bend of my arm. Don't know about you all, but it's hard to bend your arm when you have an IV there, and I wanted to make sure I could move and hold my baby!
Anyway, in the end I was taking to the OR and I'm glad I really like my doctor and she's amazing. During the entire thing she's sitting there having a conversation about random things with me and Clint and laughing as he watches and takes pictures. When I say he's taking pictures... I mean he's taking pictures of my guts and all! I'll save you from looking at those, don't worry. This kid's head was so big that they had to go back and make the incision bigger to get him out.
I'm glad Gavin is here and that he and I are alright. With everything that was going on the Lord saw fit to bless us with health and strength. I'm still recovering and in some pain, but the medicine is helping with that. Gavin goes to his first doctor's appointment tomorrow and hopefully things continue to look great!
